Great question! This is exactly why many brides choose to do a trial before the big day. The most common reason a trial feels “off” isn’t because the artist can’t do it—it’s usually miscommunication. Sometimes brides are nervous to speak up, or the artist may interpret your inspiration photos differently than you intended.
The purpose of a trial is to test-drive your look—to see what you love, what you’d tweak, and how to make it perfectly you. That means you need to feel comfortable telling us what’s working and what’s not. Your artist can only refine your look if you share your thoughts openly. Keep in mind: styles and colors that look stunning on Pinterest or on someone else may not translate the same way on you—and that’s totally normal.
The goal of the trial is to adjust, refine, and bring your vision to life. Never hesitate to reach out with questions or concerns—I want your experience to feel as stress-free and exciting as possible!
Tipping is never mandatory, but in the wedding world it’s definitely the norm (and very appreciated!). Think of it this way—if you’re tipping your florist, photographer, DJ, or musicians, why wouldn’t you tip the artist who’s been standing in one spot for 6+ hours making sure you look flawless? We’re working nonstop, often without breaks, to get every detail just right so you can feel incredible walking down the aisle.
A tip is simply a “thank you” for the artistry, time, and energy we’ve poured into your day. While it’s never expected, we live in a tipping culture where gratuity often signals satisfaction. So yes, when a tip is missing, most artists can’t help but second-guess whether we did something wrong—even if you loved your look!
This questions is googled FREQUENTLY so I thought addressing it honestly is the best approach.
Generally as with any service industry 15-25% is normal but specifically in the bridal industry I most often see other vendors or teams requiring a mandatory 20%.
The standard tip in the bridal industry is 20%. While some teams have mandatory gratuity added in the contract, we believe it should be at the clients discretions whether or not to tip.
While tips and gratuity are never expected, the standard tip rate in the bridal beauty industry is 20%
Typically no.
For my team specifically and Im sure the same is true with others-the only time a meal is ever expected or required is if we will be present during dinner service
If you have hired your artist to stay on for touch ups or style changes through the reception and they will be present during the time dinner is served-yes. A meal will be required.
If you hired your artists for initial hair and makeup services only and they will be leaving immediately after-no we do not expect to be fed! Though if you have a breakfast/lunch spread while you're party is getting ready we absolutely will not decline grabbing a snack for the ride home!
If you have hired your artist for the day or you have a large party and services will take 6-8 hours, although my business does not require or expect it, that would be highly appreciated. Standing in the same spot doing hair/makeup for 6-8 hours straight with no break and without eating is EXHAUSTING and being offered food is appreciated more than you know.
In short: yes. If you are tipping others, the owner should be as well.
This one’s tricky because there’s a common misconception that owners are “pocketing” all the money. The reality? Many times, owners actually make less than their team because so much of the income goes back into running the business.
That’s why I believe tipping should be based on the service you received, not the title of the person providing it. As an owner, I’m not only behind the chair doing your hair or makeup—I’m also the one handling all the behind-the-scenes work (bookings, contracts, inventory, timelines, emails, marketing… you get the idea 😅). So yes, when clients tip my assistants but not me, it can feel discouraging—like maybe I didn’t do a good job or wasn’t as valued.
At the end of the day, a tip is simply a thank-you for the artistry, time, and energy poured into your look. Ownership doesn’t change that—we’re still showing up with the same talent and passion to make you look and feel amazing.
A non-transferable, non-refundable retainer and signed contract are required to hold the date.
Trials are typically held Wed-Fri (weekends are reserved for weddings) at my studio in Fort Walton Beach.
I typically like to set up the trial closer to the wedding to ensure details are decided, looks chosen, accessories purchased and hair length and color/skin tone are similar to what we will have to work with for the wedding. (think summer tan as opposed to winter color for us melanin challenged ladies!)
We do not have a minimum service or person count. We love a micro-wedding or elopement! We DO however have a minimum dollar requirement. To compensate for this, I have a few bride only options with extras to really elevate the brides experience.
Your artist will arrive with all tools and products to style your bridal parties hair as desired.
Onsite hair styling includes:
-1 heat application whether it be curling or flat ironing
-any pinning necessary to acheive the desired look
-all hair sprays, anti-humidity, friz control, heat protectant, texture and dry shampoo sprays needed
-all braids and details requested
-we can apply all accessories or extensions provided by the client
-all styling appointments include 1 style only (time will not be alloted to changing styles mulptile times)
-Blow drying is not part of the styling unless discussed prior to date
Unfortunately, in the past we have had little success recouping damages and time lost even though these conditions are covered in the contract. Some of our experiences:
- bridal party showing up a full 2 hours late (no I'm not exaggerating);
-having a child break an eyeshadow palette;
-a mom take a lip-gloss from my kit and apply it directly to her child's mouth resulting having to throw the whole product away;
-a glass of champagne spilled in my kit;
-services added on last minute on the wedding day at a wedding I personally was not working. The bride told the artist she sent me and she never paid the artist. Attempts to collect were ignored and the artist was never paid for work performed.
None of these situations were ever rectified and invoices were never paid and these are just a few of the situations I have personally encountered in the last 10 years. We spend a lot of money keeping out products hygienic for clients and we value our time just as much as you value yours. As such we need to protect our artists and be able to charge for incidentals since in the past, invoicing for these things after the fact has been unsuccessful. Thank you for understanding.
This is a tricky question and is going to depend on what style you are looking for. Typically for weddings, we don't have the amount of time you would have if you were going to a salon.
In salon generally there is time for a full blowout and flat ironing before styling (or silk press). For weddings we have a half hour to 45 max. This is not enough time for multiple heat applications just to prep the hair.
In order to ensure we stay on schedule we will either need to work with your natural curl, recurl into a different curl pattern (for types 3A or 3B), or request you have it blown out ahead of time that way we can flat iron and style (for curl patterns of 3c to 4A-B)
At RAD Beauty, a bridal trial is your personal dress rehearsal for glam ✨. It’s the chance for us to tweak and perfect the bridal look you’ve been dreaming about, making sure the styles you love on Pinterest or Instagram also flatter you. (It’s super common for brides to fall in love with a photo on a model only to realize that version isn’t the most flattering on themselves—that’s where we step in to adjust and customize.)
👉 What a trial is NOT: it’s not an audition to decide if you like RAD Beauty. If you’re browsing our portfolio and don’t see makeup styles that feel like “you,” that’s a sign we may not be the right fit. Our signature vibe is soft, natural glam—think radiant skin, timeless beauty, and you, but elevated. If your vision is full glam, sharp wings, and heavy contouring, you won’t find that in our gallery because it’s not the aesthetic we create or advertise. And that’s okay! You’ll be happiest booking an artist whose style already matches your vision.
