Lash Extension FAQ
Why are eyelash extensions more expensive than the extensions at a nail salon?
Those are NOT eyelash extensions. If you get a full set in less than an hour they are more than likely using cluster lashes. These lashes are glued to multiple natural lashes. The problem with this is that each lash grows at a different pace. If a cluster is glued to 4 natural lashes, the slower growing lashes will be ripped from the root as the quicker lashes grow out resulting in damage that could be permanent.
How long do extensions last?
Lash extensions are are required to be filled every 2-3 weeks. If you get a set and do not plan to have them filled your set will last about a month. However, be aware that due to the natural lash growth the set will not be FULL for that amount of time. Typically gaps will begin to be visible around the 2-3 week mark.
I have heard extensions ruin your lashes.
Wrong! Improper aftercare or an inexperienced lash tech ruins your lashes. I take special care to not only ensure your natural lashes are isolated to prevent them sticking together, but to also never use a lash that is heavier than your natural lash can handle. That means that if you have a baby lash next to a mature lash, I will be using different lenghts/weights on each of them to ensure each individual looks its best and has the best chance to continue to grow uninhibited.
Can I remove my lashes myself?
I highely discourage this. Pulling on the extensions will not only cause your natural lashes to break off but could permanently damage your natural lashes. If you need removal I offer free removal to my lash clients. It takes no time and will ensure your lashes are healthy!
Can I just let my extensions grow out if I don't like them?
I highly discourage this. As your natural lash grows, the extensions grow out with them. Think about acrylic nails. The problem is, the weight of the extension on the grown out lash can cause it to snap. Also, as they grow out they can become twisted and tangled which can cause breakage.
Why arent my lashes as full and dark as the picture?
Lash extensions are limited to what your natural lash is capable of holding. If you see a very dark, full set online and yours is completely different, the pictured model probably has much stronger and many more natural lashes than you do.
Can I still use mascara?
100% No. Mascara is nearly impossible to fully remove from the lash extensions. If you are pushing your fill appointments out too far and have visible gaps that require mascara, you are damaging the extensions you still have. Most times I will need to remove the surviving extensions because the mascara clumps onto them creating a thick cluster instead of a nice delicate fan of lashes. Book your fills accordingly!
How long does the appointment take?
A full set ranges from 1.5-2.5 hourse. This will depend on not only the technique you request but also the amount of natural lashes you have! A fill appointment is typically about an hour to 1.5 hours.
Why does a fill appointment take almost as long as a full set?
At the fill appointment I will begin with cleansing and prepping the lashes. Then I must remove the extensions that have grown out and have a large gap that the base of the lid due to natural lash growth. This can take some time. After this I can proceed to apply new extensions to the new growth.
Why do I lose more lashes during a certain time of the year?
Typically in the fall is when most people will have quicker lash turn over. This could mean you may need fills more frequently and may not necessarily mean you are doing something wrong. However, spring effects some as well.
Are there any restrictions I should be aware of?
Yes, please visit the information page.
Can I get an eye infection?
The only reason anyone with lash extensions will get an infection in improper aftercare. You will have a foreign object on your eye which can trap oil, dirt and debree from the environment and your daily lifestyle. You MUST ensure you are keeping them clean and following proper aftercare.
What is the maintenance like?
Fills are needed every 2-3 weeks. Your job at home is to refrain from products that will reduce retention and keep them clean. I will provide you with an aftercare card to take the guest work out of this. I recommend buying a lash extension shampoo and cleansing the lashes 1-3 times a week depending on skin type, lifestyle and lash set type.
What if you are unable to fit me in for my fill?
It is your responsibility to ensure your fill appointments are booked in a timely manner. I am typically booked a month in advance and although I will try my best, I am unable to just "squeeze" in an hour and a half appointment. When booking a full set I recommend booking your fill appointments as well. If you are not booked and more than 3 weeks has passed please be advised that your fill appointment may carry an extra charge to compensate for the extra product and work that will be needed.
Do you use real mink?
Absolutely NOT! I use purely sythetic lashes!
